Dial "C" for Cookie

BUSHWACK, AR—Last week, Miss Mary O'Toole, 65, confessed to an act of criminal mischief that led to the poisoning of her younger sister, Miss Millie O'Toole, 64. Miss Mary had convinced Miss Millie that the widely publicized risk of contracting salmonella from eating raw cookie dough was an urban legend. Although years had passed without incident, Miss Millie was hospitalized for a severe case of food poisoning 15 hours after consuming a good portion of dough for a snickerdoodle batch she had prepared for a church potluck.

Cookies: delectable treat or terrorist threat?

Miss Mary, who had been sharing in the treat, also became ill but did not require hospitalization. "I just always felt it was a shame that they were telling us that cookie dough was off-limits," said Miss Mary, "and I'd never heard of anyone taking sick. I guess now I know better."

Miss Millie was released in good health on Tuesday.
