They left a present (...a sign...a warning?)
atop my porch, late this morning,
a peanut...as if I wouldn't know what that meant.

In typical telegraph fashion,
that squirrel first captured my actions,
on video record from his perch on the overhead line.

As he crept ever slower,
he'd stop and lean over
and quietly chitter a curse.

They always tip me off.
But never to which way they'll turn.
